Is TCU "Christian in Name Only?"
Texas Christian University is receiving mass backlash from students and alumni for their continues failure to acknowledge their Christian roots, and particularly so on Easter.
Most church based universities across the state acknowledged The Resurrection of Jesus Christ yesterday on one or multiple social media platforms (Baylor, Abilene Christian, & Dallas Baptist to name a few).
And instead of joining them and acknowledging the religious foundation of Easter, TCU posted a virtual egg-hunt on social media without one mention of Jesus Christ.
This sparked outrage and frustration with Horned Frogs all over the internet. Below are few statements made by students and alumni on the social media platform, X:
“Hey maybe we should talk about Jesus on Easter as Texas Christian University instead of virtual eggs.”
“Not surprised by this. By the way, your student body is still very faith-driven, even if you won’t acknowledge that.”
“The direction this university is headed is down…quickly.”
“You still have 2.5 hours to mention the reason for Easter, Texas “Christian” University. Our administration is 🗑️.”
“Would love if my “christian” school properly acknowledged the most important holiday of the year. @TCU do better. This is so shameful.”
It is worth noting, TCU requires all students to take at least one religious course as part of their undergraduate education plan, but is that enough?
While the name and location of TCU attracts large numbers of students of faith, the administration is still determined to avoid their Christian roots.
