New Texas Law Will Ban Paper License Plates This Summer
House Bill 718, which was signed back in 2023, will go into effect on July 1st, 2025. The purpose of the bill was to replace temporary paper tags with metal license plates.
The bill was drafted to address concerns related to the fraudulent use of paper license tags. Starting July 1st, car dealerships must issue metal license plates to buyers at the time of sale. Temporary tags will no longer be available to be printed for use.
County Tax Assessor-Collector offices and Regional Service Centers begin issuing Temporary Registration metal plates for 30-Day and One-Trip Permits.
What do you think? Is this a smart move for the state?
