Texas A&M President Resigning After Gender Theory Scandal
The President of Texas A&M University, Mark Welsh, a former Obama appointee and retired four-star general, will be resigning from his position after recent controversy surrounding a classroom incident involving woke ideology in a children’s literature class.
Last month, a student at Texas A&M enrolled in a children’s literature class objected to the professor’s lecture after she stated that there were more than two genders. The student claimed that the lecture was against her religious beliefs and might even be illegal.
The student secretly recorded the interaction and was then forced to leave the class. Later, the department chair emailed her and proposed that she could maintain her current grade, so long as she didn't return to the class.
After the recordings were released, and subsequently shared by Rep. Brian Harrison (R-TX), public pressure mounted and the professor in question was fired.
President Welsh was also secretly recorded by the student when the matter was brought to his attention. After the audio recording was released, Welsh was heavily criticized online over his hesitancy to initially fire the professor. Some even argued that he supported the professors right to discuss woke gender ideology since all professions may have to one day work with or provide services to individuals that align with this ideology.
After the audio recording of Welsh and the student was leaked, political figures across the state and even Governor Abbott weighed in on the issue. Many others called for the resignation of the professor, and President Welsh for how he handled the situation at a historically conservative university.
What do you think? Did President Welsh deserve to lose his job?
